Announcement: Fourth of July

Today, Germany won the Viertelfinale. America celebrated its Independence. And I completed my defense. Magna cum laude – not a mark that I have wanted. But hey, to quote one of my friends: This is a comma, that means more room for me to develop and finish the sentence in the future 😉

Huge thanks to all who have supported and encouraged me and to all those who came to my defense today! Love you all so much!! 🙂

Announcement: An Invitation to the Defense

Dear all,

4 years,

11 academic presentations (most of them are related to my thesis),

16 self-development courses (12 with certificates),

thousand pages of horrible drafts,

countless sleepless nights.

A few months after my 26th birthday, I finally submitted my updated dissertation, which now covers roughly 300 pages (I really have to add that this was one of the birthdays, when I, being left alone in Germany, missed my family in Australia and my fiance in China the most).

Well, PhD is really harder than I thought. In Germany, one cannot get a real doctoral title until the dissertation is formally published. But at least I have made the first huge step by submitting it!

Now, I would like to invite you to the defense of my dissertation, which is about Ezekiel’s Oracles against the Foreign Nations (chapters 25-32).

Date: Friday, 04.07.2014

Time: 14:00-16:00 (with a small reception afterwards)

Venue: Seminarraum 1.601, Seminar für Altorientalistik, Heinrich-Düker-Weg 14, 37073 Göttingen (for the defense); Seminarraum 2.701, Seminar für Altorientalistik, Heinrich-Düker-Weg 14, 37073 Göttingen (for the reception)

RSVP: For the preparation of the reception, if you are planning to come, please email me at

I look forward to seeing you there!

I have decided that I will not kiss the Gänseliesel. But, to commemorate this significant event in my life (whether the result is good or bad), I have prepared some stories/reflections about the making of this dissertation, to share with you all on this blog after the defense. So, stay tuned! 🙂
